There are two types of Aediles in Rome.

1-Plebeian

2-Patrician

 

Term of office for Aediles is for 3 years. They are elected by the people, the duties of

the Aediles are as fallows:

 

1-In charge of maintaining public buildings, aqueducts, and roads.

Aediles must contract the various businesses in Rome such as masonry's, brick makers, carpenters and lime workers to work on the many aqueducts, roads and public buildings in and around Rome. Aediles can do this by presenting the maintenance form to the businesses mentioned above, the form can be accessed by entering the maintenance page indicated by the link bellow. Once entering the page above the form, a link can be seen titled maintenance chart. This link will give aediles access to the maintenance chart which aediles can observe the condition and damages of the buildings, roads and aqueducts in Rome. He then can take the necessary steps to repair any structures which need to be repaired. If an Aedile dose not perform his duties satisfactorily he will be discharged from his position and will be forced to once again start the game as a basic citizen, and he will loose all properties and monies he has accumulated up to that time.

 

2-Manages the grain supply 

Aediles are responsibble for the managing and over seeing of Romes grain supply and reserves. Aediles must at al times check the cities grain supply to make sure that it dose not reach the danger level. If the grain supply reaches the critical level, the aedile will be dismissed from his office and he will be forced to oncw again start the game as a basic citizen. The job of overseeing the grain supply will always be given to the Aedile of the Plebian senatorial class. In order for the Aedile to observe the cities garin supply he must click on the link bellow which reads grain supply chart. Once he has enterd the chart, if the grain level is reaching the critical level he must fill out the grain form located bellow the grain supply chart. This form then will be sent to the merchants who are responsibble for supplying the city with its grain, then the merchants will in turn present the Aedile with a bill. If the Aedile is satesfide with the requested sum presented by the merchants, he then will click the empty box located on the bill form and re send it to the merchants. Once this is completed with in two days the grain supply will onc again aotumatically fill up to its origenal status.

 

3- Supervises the games

 

Aediles are responsible for the managing and overseeing of setting up all public games in Rome, These games include:

1-All gladiatorial fights in Romes amphitheater
 
2-Horse and chariot races in Romes Curcus Maximas

 

Aediles are to contact all gladiatorial schools and by using funds provided from the state

treasury to lease as many gladiators needed for a gladiatorial game. They must also perform

similar tasks in obtaining the chariots and horses needed for the races in the curcus maximas.
